A Playable eco-play trail along the Garonne quays, in Bordeaux.

Bord'eau Village stretches for 800 metres along the Garonne, in five historic warehouses listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The finding: an elegant but mineral environment, with no seating, no greenery and no shade. The challenge: create rest areas open to everyone, by the water, without altering the site.
Rather than a fenced play area, the eco-play trail is spread across the whole site. It sets the rhythm of the stroll and invites young and old to stop, play and share a moment.

With this trail, we imagined a new way of inhabiting public space. Play does not have to be isolated in a dedicated area: integrated with care, it becomes a tool for connection. That is the principle of Playable, playable urban furniture.

Inspired by the skyline, the curves of the Port de la Lune and the flow of the Garonne, the trail unfolds blue and yellow undulations, in dialogue with the listed architecture. Each square has its own narrative, and educational posts developed with Cap Sciences tell the story of the place. Nearly 80% of the elements were custom-made in Dordogne and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The project received the JANUS de la Cité 2026.

Working with Bleu & Associés on the eco-playful trail at Bord'eau Village was particularly smooth and constructive. From the start, the team listened closely, with constant dialogue and genuine co-construction of the project. Bleu & Associés very quickly grasped the specific challenges of the site and the area, including the discussions with the ABF (French heritage architects), and involved local stakeholders effectively. They also built our CSR commitment into the heart of the project, favouring local manufacturing of the structures and seeking innovative solutions suited to the site. Their responsiveness, adaptability and rigour let us move forward calmly at every stage. I also appreciated the quality of the relationship, the team's availability and their vision, both strategic and operational, from the advisory phase through to hands-on delivery on site. It is a collaboration built on trust, which I can recommend without reservation.

Playable encourages free and spontaneous play, movement and curiosity, and fights sedentary habits. Designed at children's height, it makes places more welcoming, accessible and inclusive, and creates a meeting ground between generations. Seating and rest areas offer a moment of relaxation by the Garonne.
